Prism TV is discontinued by Centurylink. Families are using the best alternative

CenturyLink Discontinues Prism TV (Best Alternative)

“CenturyLink Discontinues Prism TV! However, what is the alternative?“

By: Bruce Adair – Denver, CO

Many CenturyLink Prism TV customers in Denver have received notice that Prism TV will no longer be available. This comes as no surprise to StreamWise Solutions or our customers, many of whom are former Prism TV customers in the greater Colorado area. By choosing StreamWise Solutions, these former Prism TV customers saved money, got better and more reliable service, and gained access to countless additional programming options that are both legal and free.

Also, by choosing to cut the cord with help from StreamWise Solutions, many Prism TV customers saved over $1,500 per year on TV and internet.

Why Did CenturyLink Shut Down Prism TV?

Prism TV shut down for one reason and one reason only: they were not making enough money. Due to the weird economics of TV distribution in America, Prism, just like cable and satellite, required its customers to pay retransmission fees (aka broadcast fees).

Those payments from customers flow straight through to the major broadcast channels: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX. So not only does advertising pay for TV but the ever increasing broadcast fees go into padding the pockets of giant, trans-national media companies. Wouldn’t it be better if that money stayed in your pocket?

Since we know that flexibility and savings are better than bundles and hidden fees, we still have to ask ourselves why CenturyLink discontinued Prism TV. Shutting down Prism TV means a new alternative for CenturyLink’s bundles.

What Caused CenturyLink To Shut Down Prism TV?

A spokesman from CenturyLink states the following:

“Due to emerging market trends in video content and delivery, we do not plan to expand our Prism TV service offering."
“We will continue to provide service and support to our current Prism TV subscribers and make the service available to qualified customers..."
    ”Francie Dudrey - CenturyLink Spokesman

As mentioned earlier, we are convinced shutting down Prism TV was caused by the aftermath of new cord cutters recently. Why wouldn’t you cut your bills in half

What Is Going To Replace The Discontinued Prism TV Service?

CenturyLink is currently pivoting towards partnering up with other TV providers such as AT&T TV, DirecTV, Dish Network. They will not be charging you TV within each billing cycle. However, expect the bundles that you potentially have or are considering owning to contain hidden fees such as broadcasting fees.

Aside from partnering up pay TV sources, CenturyLink is moving towards streaming TV services. As mentioned above, CenturyLink will leverage hidden fees and enroll you into packages that are unnecessary since they are discontinuing Prism TV.

Although CenturyLink will provide “options,” their biggest agenda will be to force subscribers into DirecTV.

CenturyLink’s Discontinued Prism TV Bundles – What Now?

According to various sources on Reddit, a Prism TV subscriber will be forced to choose DirecTV or another TV package. If no Prism TV alternative is chosen, a subscriber is going to have their bills increased. This Prism TV subscriber had this to say:

After calling about upgrading my suddenly slow internet (had five years no issues), I'm told I have to take DirecTV service, or my bill will increase by $40 per month. I'm not too fond of DirecTV. Add in that I live in hurricane country, satellite isn't a good idea. One good wind, and it's out of alignment, and I have no service. Seriously considering jumping to Time Warner. I would rather deal with their outages than put up with this crap. After doing an upgrade, suddenly my system doesn't work at all. Jerks!

    Angry Prism TV Redditor

Should you be worried if you are a Prism TV subscriber? If you are tired of hidden fees and being bullied by your TV provider, you should consider cutting the cord. Calling in to a CenturyLink representative will do you little to no good.
