Amazon Prime and WW2 Movies

As you may have read in my previous post, I enjoy WW2 movies. However, I also enjoy movies about groups of people solving really large problems together. Hidden Figures and Apollo 13 spring immediately to mind as some of my favorites in this genre.

Recently, though, I discovered “Castles in the Sky” from the BBC which is now available via streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The narrative centers on Great Britain’s effort to develop and deploy Radar in anticipation of a Nazi air offensive. The struggles faced by these scientists and engineers will be intimately familiar to entrepreneurs. In the movie we see funding struggles, familial sacrifice, rapid iteration, wavering between faith and despair and a fair amount of hacking. This movie shows us smart, extraordinarily creative people solving super difficult problems.

Amazon Prime Video also has other great problem solving and WW2 movies. Enemies at the Gate and A Bridge Too Far are both currently included in an Amazon Prime subscription. Contagion, starring Kate Winslet and Matt Damon will make you apply hand sanitizer. This movie does not cover WW2. Instead it covers the scientific and personal stories of people trying to understand and solve an epidemic outbreak. Of course, Amazon Prime is not the only place to watch great WW2 movies and problem solving films. Netflix’s catalog contains an incredible selection of films and documentaries in these genres. Between an HD Antenna, Netlix and Amazon Prime video you should never run out of great movies.
