Altitude Sports Black Out (Update 2020)
Cord cutters in Denver don’t get Altitude Sports…but now, neither does any one else. That’s right sports fans, the cable and satellite companies have dropped Altitude Sports because they can’t agree on a price. Guess what…your regional sports fees have a high probability of going up, and this blackout is predicted to last for years.
Occasionally, we talk to people with outrageous TV bills that refuse to cut the cord because they need access to Altitude Sports. They are deeply resentful of their pay TV bill but they also love the Nuggests and the Avs. Last week, I spoke to a gentleman that only watched broadcast TV, ESPN, History Channel and Altitude Sports. He was paying nearly $200 a month and he was sick of it…but he loves his basketball and hockey. We told him the truth. He could get broadcast for free with an antenna and then integrate it with streaming options for ESPN and the History Channel. His monthly bill would decrease by over $100 but he could not get all the AVS and Nuggets games.
Guess what? The blackout pushed him over the edge. He called in earlier this week and decided that watching every Avs and Nuggets game was not worth $1200 per year. Thats right…by getting rid of of pay TV he would save over $1200 a year. He could still watch the games that came on ESPN and other sports channels available via streaming, but he could not watch all the games. And if the Avs or the Nuggets make the playoffs then he will be able to watch all of those games.
Now, we all know that regional live sports keeps many people in their expensive pay TV packages. However, these blackouts will also cause many people to finally decide that enough is enough. For those of us who have lived without pay TV for years, the savings far outweigh the benefits. I have not access to the Avs and Nuggets for 5 years and I have saved over $6000.
The math on all of this is simple. If you think the Avs and the Nuggets are worth over $1000+ per year, then stick with cable or satellite. If you don’t think they are worth $1000+ per year, then cut the cord. So, if you decide to stick with cable and satellite because of Altitude Sports, then make sure you are comfortable with those numbers. Or you could just call Altitude sports and tell them to join the modern world and offer a paid streaming option.
