Why is Comcast pushing Flex so hard?

It seems that Comcast has finally acknowledged Cord Cutting as a legitimate phenomenon, after pushing it off as a myth for years. They finally decided they couldn’t spin the fact that people were fed up with terrible customer service and expensive monthly bills.

Comcast lost 733,000 video subscribers in 2019. When you do the math on that, this means that they lost nearly $80M per month in revenue. So in order to stop this cash hemorrhaging, they have introduced Comcast Xfinity Flex and will stop at nothing to make sure anyone that has internet has a Flex box too.

Comcast Flex – A wolf in sheep’s clothing

The TV ads that Comcast puts together seem very sexy but when we break it down things go from sexy to ugly very quickly. Here is a list of the issues with Comcast Xfinity Flex:

1. It’s not open source. Meaning just like your old Cable box, guess who is in control – Comcast.
2. In order to watch traditional Cable and Broadcast networks you will still need to subscribe to XFinity TV with all of the same extra Broadcast fees, Sports fees and taxes.
3. You cannot hook up a TV Antenna for free local network channels. Why pay for TV channels you can get for free?
4. No doubt they will push their new Peacock TV streaming service, but the sad truth is you can’t get a lot of the top streaming services on Flex. Especially Live TV Streaming Services like Philo, YouTube TV, Hulu Live, etc.
5. Blackouts still apply. Just like with your old Cable TV, when Comcast has a dispute with HBO, CBS, etc. they just black out the content so you can’t access it.
6. Sneaky fees. If you have more than 1 TV, you need to rent additional Flex units for $5 per month.
7. You still have to deal with Comcast “customer service” whenever you have issues or price hikes.
8. Not compatible with Roku, Fire TV or Apple TV
9. The commercial makes it seem like you need the Comcast / XFinity network device. (They just want you to rent their inferior network device for $13+ per month)
