Peacock TV Review
The inside scoop about NBC’s Peacock TV streaming service on Comcast Xfinity
Comcast Xfinity’s Peacock TV is an odd bird and a strange name for yet another on-demand streaming TV service. Comcast Xfinity spent a lot of money in 2020 to strut Peacock TV around and push out it’s pretty feathers. Four years later, Peacock TV has realized it’s hard to stand apart from all of the other birds in the world of streaming services.
Peacock TV has a lot of on-demand TV and movies, but so does every other streaming service. In short, Peacock TV is just a Comcast Xfinity owned locked down and stripped-down version of Hulu – which we would recommend over Peacock in most situations.
Peacock TV has some old things you hate about Comcast Xfinity
It is essential to understand NBC Universal owns Peacock TV, which also owns Comcast Xfinity. Comcast Xfinity is trying to use Peacock TV and their new FlexBox hardware to stop the hemorrhaging of TV subscribers that have Cut The Cord from Cable TV at a record pace. As you might guess, Comcast Xfinity’s FlexBox is a typical bait and switch pricing that you have come to expect from Comcast and is just plain bad for consumers. To highlight Comcast’s continuing quest to lock you down, initially you couldn’t access Peacock TV on either Roku or Fire TV (the top 2 streaming devices in the country by far).
Comcast’s old model of price gouging and poor customer service is catching up to it. People finally have other service options, so Comcast Xfinity is losing subscribers to Cord Cutting every quarter at a record pace. Comcast is spending millions of advertising dollars to try to hook people on Peacock and Flexbox. They need to stay relevant in the TV and bundling game, so they will stop at nothing to promote Peacock and Flex.
How much will Comcast Xfinity Peacock TV cost?
On the positive side, at least Peacock TV is more transparent than Cable TV in its features and pricing. They have some free content, but to get the real content most folks would care about; you need to fork out $8 a month for Premium. Premium Peacock TV includes ads though, to get rid of “most” ads, you need to pay an additional $6 a month for Premium Plus, so $14 a month in total. While not a great value, at least it’s not $200 a month like your old Cable TV bill… However, Hulu offers way more content and is supported on all major devices for a similar price. Plus an Antenna gives you 80 live TV channels including NBC and Telemundo for free!
Speaking of typical Comcast Xfinity bait and switch pricing, they just announced a price increase for Peacock TV, here is a breakdown of all pricing options.
Subscription Type | Original Price | New Price as of July 18, 2024 |
Premium Annual | $59.99 | $79.99 ($20 increase) |
Premium Monthly | $5.99 | $7.99 ($2 increase) |
Premium Plus Annual | $119.99 | $139.99 ($20 increase) |
Premium Plus Monthly Add-On | $6.00 | $6.00 (no change) |
How to get Peacock TV for free with Comcast Xfinity
If you have Comcast Xfinity as your ISP you may actually be able to get a free subscription to Peacock TV, if you put in a little work. (Comcast Xfinity owns NBC Universal / Peacock TV). Comcast Xfinity free Peacock TV offers are always changing, vary by state and can be difficult to activate.
To see if your Xfinity account grants you a complimentary subscription to Peacock, log into your Xfinity account on your computer or through the Xfinity app on your smartphone. If you are having issues, you may need to call Comcast Xfinity or go into a store.
Typically Comcast Xfinity includes Peacock TV for free if you have their top Gig Speed Internet, or if you rent their upper tier WiFi router system for $15-$25 a month (which we do NOT recommend).
After you see if you qualify, you can check your Comcast Xfinity statement. Towards the bottom of your Statement you should see an entry for Peacock under “Add Ons.”

Conclusion – Is Comcast Xfinity’s Peacock TV streaming service worth it?
Most people are already paying for a Live TV Streaming service. So with Peacock you will be getting a lot of the same content already, so I don’t see any reason to pay for Peacock TV, unless you need specific Olympic or Soccer content for a month.
Most folks already have Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Sling, YouTube TV, etc. which offer a lot of the same shows and content already, so why bother paying Peacock TV’s steep monthly fee? That doesn’t even take into account the plethora of other Premium movie channels and a bunch of 100% free streaming TV services. Hopefully, you worked with the experts at StreamWise Solutions, formerly freeTVee, to Cut The Cord and already have access to all of the content without relying on Comcast. StreamWise Solutions is all about real savings and real freedom – freedom to use whatever streaming service you like being a part of that.
