What is Peacock TV? NBC’s new streaming service on Comcast’s Xfinity – Review 2020

Peacock TV is an odd bird and a strange name for yet another new on-demand streaming TV service. Even with pretty feathers in 2020, it’s hard to stand apart from all of the other birds in the world of streaming services. It has a lot of on-demand TV and movies, but so does every other streaming service. In short, Peacock TV is just a Comcast Xfinity owned locked down and stripped-down version of Hulu – which we would recommend over Peacock.

It is essential to understand NBC Universal owns Peacock TV, which also owns Comcast Xfinity. Comcast is trying to use Peacock TV and their new FlexBox to stop the hemorrhaging TV subscribers that have Cut The Cord from Cable TV at a record pace. As you might guess, Comcast Xfinity’s FlexBox is a typical bait and switch pricing that you have come to expect from Comcast and is just plain bad for consumers. To highlight Comcast’s continuing quest to lock you down, you can’t access Peacock TV on either Roku or Fire TV (the top 2 streaming devices in the country by far).

Comcast’s old model of price gouging and poor customer service is catching up to it. People finally have other service options, so Comcast Xfinity is losing subscribers to Cord Cutting every quarter at a record pace. Comcast is spending millions of advertising dollars to try to hook people on Peacock and Flexbox. They need to stay relevant in the TV and bundling game, so they will stop at nothing to promote Peacock and Flex.

How much will the peacock streaming service cost? Is it free?

On the positive side, at least Peacock TV is more transparent than Flex in its features and pricing. They have some free content, but to get the real content most folks would care about; you need to fork out $5 a month for Premium. Premium Peacock TV includes ads though, to get rid of “most” ads, you need to pay an additional $5 a month, so $10 a month in total. While not a great value, at least it’s not $200 a month like your old Cable TV bill… However, Hulu offers way more content and is supported on all major devices for the same price.

Conclusion – Is Comcast’s Xfinity Peacock TV streaming service worth it?

Additionally, most people are already paying for a Live TV Streaming service. You will be getting a lot of the same content already, so I don’t see any reason to pay for Peacock TV. Likely you already have Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Sling, YouTube TV, etc. which offer the same shows and content already, so why bother with Peacock TV? That doesn’t even take into account the plethora of other Premium movie channels and a bunch of 100% free streaming TV services.
