Afraid to Cut the Cord
My wife’s cousin and his wife came to Christmas Eve dinner. They were finally ready to cut the cord. Like many of our customers, they have been contemplating it for years. But they have been afraid of the change. They are so afraid of cutting the cord that they have wasted $6000+ on pay TV over the last three years.
And that is exactly what big Pay TV wants…they want you to be afraid. They want you to think that your current TV setup is as good as it gets. But it is not true. 99.99% of our customers will never go back to cable or satellite. Why? Because when StreamWise Solutions, formerly freeTVee, cuts the cord and provides training, you will save so much money and still watch everything you are watching right now.
When I spoke to my wife’s cousin on Christmas Eve he gave the following reasons for being reluctant to cut the cord:
- “I like to surf channels and find things to watch.”
- “I like to have the TV on as background noise.”
- “Cord cutting is too confusing and complicated and I am too old.”
Needless to say I was flabbergasted. After all, I am one of the leading experts on cord cutting in the United States. These were the same objections he gave me last year, before $2000+ left his bank account to pay big cable. Every year, he and his wife come to dinner and hear me evangelizing about cord cutting. I show them our setup and tell them it only costs me $60 for internet and $30 for all my family’s favorite channels like ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, CW, Grit, ESPN, History, Comedy Central, Disney, TNT, TBS, AMC and A&E and many, many others. And they could get even more channels for less because they don’t watch sports.
So once again, on Christmas Eve, I answered all his objections. You can still surf and find things to watch…and there are even more options for surfing. If you have an antenna, then you can watch all day and not worry about data caps from your internet provider. And yes, cord cutting is complicated if you don’t know anything about optimizing your WiFi. But that is why StreamWise Solutions exists. We take the complications out of cord cutting. All you need to do is sit back and relax while we take care of everything.
And then he said something we hear from potential customers all the time. “But it is expensive for you guys to do it for me.” I collapsed in my chair and put my head between my hands. “But you just paid $2000 to the cable company this year,” I groaned. “And you have nothing to show for it. And the rates are going up again in two weeks. If we had installed the day after Christmas last year, you would have paid off the equipment already and be saving tons of money every month.”
This is the point where I realized that big TV is spending a lot of money to make you afraid. You are paying them to tell you to be afraid to stop paying them. Read that sentence again. Its like some kind of weird, psychological protection racket. A newly liberated customer once told us that their relationship with cable was abusive and that has stayed with us.
As we have said before in countless posts, we will not lie to you. Watching TV as a cord cutter is different from pay TV. It takes about a week to really get used to it. And then it takes about another week to master some of the advanced functionality. But after that, you will be watching all the same shows and channels in HD for a fraction of the current cost.
