Money Math for Potential Cord Cutters
We love money math! On Tuesday we installed our complete cord cutting package for a couple living north of Denver. Their combined bill for TV, Internet and home phone was $280.83 per month. By the time we left, their entire monthly TV and internet bill was $76.67, including tax. That is a monthly savings of $204.16…annual savings of $2,449.92.
Installation Details
In order to accomplish their savings goals, we installed our complete cord cutting package which includes HD outdoor antenna, network DVR for antenna, networking equipment and streaming media players for three TVs. This combination of hardware and software, all 100% legal, gave this couple access to all the free HD channels available over the antenna, along with 40+ cable channels via streaming. These savings may seem a little too good to be true so the next logical question is this: “Did they get all the channels they wanted?” The answer is yes, except for two channels. They could have paid more to a different streaming service to get every single channel they wanted but for them it was not worth the additional $20 per month.
Cord Cutting Savings
This is just one example, obviously everyone’s situation is different, you could pay as little at $299 1x and still be saving over $1,500 every year. Annual savings in excess of $1,500 are common for those customers with TV, Internet and phone bills above $180 per month. Before tax, their invoice from us was $1,095. When we gave them the final invoice for our products and services, this is what they said: “Love your business model. With the amount we saved we will have you guys paid off in less than six months. After that, we can dump more into the college fund.” Financial planners should take note!
Keep in mind, DIY cord cutters will not achieve these results because they don’t do this day in and day out. At StreamWise Solutions, formerly freeTVee, we have been doing this every day for over 9 years. StreamWise Solutions has tested every antenna on the market and tried countless combinations of modems, routers, network DVRs, streaming services and home automation devices. We have installed 3000+ antennas and nearly as many pieces of networking equipment and even more streaming media players. Attics, crawlspaces and the tops of roofs are no mystery to us. We have untangled more wires than you can imagine. We have met thousands of spiders.
The Value of Our Experience
All of this experience means that we know what we are doing and what it takes to save the most money by cutting the cord. In order to cut the cord and really save money, you need to understand how internet speeds and Wi-Fi actually work when it comes to streaming content.
The savings you can achieve by cutting the cord will all depend on how much you currently pay on a monthly basis. Even if your combined monthly TV, Internet and home phone bill is under $130 you can save money every month. As any financial planner will tell you, saving $50 a month is way better than saving nothing. And frankly, if your bill is only around $120 to $140 per month then you can both save and probably get even more channels.
Saving the Most
Saving the most on TV, internet and home phone requires a fair bit of experience. You can certainly do it yourself but all the equipment we installed for the couple on Tuesday will cost you nearly $800 at retail. You will also need to buy a slew of special tools related to wiring and wi-fi testing that you do not already have. And then, you need to have the time because as a DIY cord cutter you will run into so many weird technical issues that it will take you weeks to figure it all out, if you ever figure it out at all. Then there is ease of use, is it really worth saving a few bucks only to have you spouse make you sleep on the couch because your new DIY Cord Cutting TV solution is such a pain to use?!? We know all of this because about 25% of our customers have tried it themselves and failed.
